A recipe from Amanda Liptak, RDN, CLT, CA
Ingredients
2 TBSP chili powder
2 tsp ground cumin
1.5 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne
1/4 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp ground pepper
Instructions
Combine all ingredients, mix and store in airtight container. Can be used in place of any recipe that calls for a packet of taco seasoning.
Notes:
This recipe makes approximately 1/4 cup (4 TBSPS).
A standard store-bought seasoning packet typically contains 1 ounce or 2-3 TBSPS of seasoning.
You may choose to use this entire recipe for 2 pounds of meat or 2-3 TBSPS for 1 pound of meat.
You may recycle an old glass spice jar and store in your spice cabinet. Ensure that all spices are within their expiration date before combining.
Pro Tips for the Best Taco Seasoning
Double or Triple the Recipe: This seasoning is so good, you’ll want to have plenty on hand. Make a big batch and store it for future taco nights.
Adjust the Salt: If you’re watching your sodium intake, you can reduce or omit the salt and add it to taste while cooking.
Make it Smoky: Use smoked paprika for a deeper, smoky flavor that adds a new layer of deliciousness to your dishes.
Ways to Use Your Homemade Taco Seasoning
Tacos & Burritos: Of course! Use it for beef, chicken, or veggie tacos.
Fajitas: Toss with sliced peppers, onions, and your protein of choice.
Roasted Veggies: Sprinkle over sweet potatoes, cauliflower, or chickpeas before roasting.
Mexican Rice: Stir it into cooked rice with a splash of lime juice for an easy side dish.
Popcorn: Yes, you read that right! A pinch of taco seasoning on popcorn makes for a zesty, unexpected snack.
